Our Story
The story of KOYO® massage chairs begins in ancient China, where massage therapy has been practiced for thousands of years. This practice spread throughout Asia, changing and evolving as it went.
The evolution most important to the eventual creation of KOYO® was the development of Shiatsu massage in Japan in the early 20th century. This system of massage, meaning “finger pressure,” uses the fingers to apply precise pressure to the body’s acupoints (also known as acupressure points) to relieve tension and pain, and even treat illness and help the body heal itself.
Also during the 20th century, Japan’s ancient heritage of craftsmanship intersected with modern manufacturing techniques. Today Japan is known as the world leader in the development and manufacture of high-tech products and for an uncompromising commitment to superior engineering and quality.
Because of this confluence of massage mastery and manufacturing excellence, KOYO® massage chairs are engineered, choreographed, and built in Japan to deliver the most effective massage possible and the highest standards of quality and reliability.
